Many homeowners who are parents have invested in a swing set or other playground-type setup for their kids to help them get some exercise and spend time outdoors. This is a great idea and can be a wonderful source of cherished memories for your kids. However, these types of things also come with responsibilities – primarily when it comes to safety.
For example, if your playground has wooden elements, the changes in temperature that come with changing seasons may have caused the wood to warp, which may loosen nuts and bolts. This is a good time of year to check that out to make sure everything is still in good shape. Additionally, the playground equipment should be on soft ground, to avoid injury that can come from falls. If your family’s playground includes a swing set, be sure that they’re at least 24 inches apart, and at least 30 inches from the frame.
