With the summer heat blazing down on us here in Montana, we’re all a little more appreciative of our air conditioners. If your air conditioner has not been as effective as you think it should be, what are some things you can do to improve the situation?

Like any kind of machinery, air conditioners require maintenance. While this can be a little more tricky with central air conditioning units, the principles we’ll mention below can typically be applied to all kinds of air conditioning systems. In any case, if you’re feeling hesitant, be sure to consult a professional.

Perhaps the most common issue causing air conditioners to be less effective is dirty, clogged filters. For that reason, one of the first things you can do to maintain your A/C is to remove any debris, and clean or replace the filters. After that, you can clean the fans, evaporator coils, and drains. Before you do any of this work, be sure to disconnect the air conditioner from its power source.
